The treatment of polychromy and toning process

Restauration de la polychromie sur un autel XVIIIe

To perfect our gilding work, we have increased our expertise to include polychromy restoration and the execution of patinas.

The techniques we employ are either modern (with acrylic binder) or ancient with the use of oil or resin binders. Colours are created with pigments.

With traditional polychromy, coatings are the same as in gilding. Gaps are therefore filled in with thick whiting.

On acrylic paint, toning may give the item an ancient aspect with the creation of wear and tear and fouling of the paint.
